Bible-Centered Preaching and Teaching
We believe the Bible to be the inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God. Thus, the goal of the preaching and teaching at Highland Baptist Church -- whether from the pulpit, in the Sunday School classroom, or in the small group meeting -- is to bring the lives of the members of the Highland community into conformity with the truth claims and behavioral demands revealed by God through Scripture.

Prayer
We believe prayer ought to be a constant, abiding aspect of the believer's life, both individually and corporately. We believe in the power of prayer to effect great change in our lives, our church, our communities, our nation, and our world, and we believe that God expects us to join Him through the work of prayer in each of these spheres of ministry.

Lordship Of Jesus Christ
We believe in the supreme Lordship of Jesus Christ over all people and all nations. We strive to live our lives in submission and obedience to His Lordship in all areas, as well to live out that obedience in the world at large so that our words and our actions might declare the Lordship of Christ to the lost and call them to repentance.

Evangelism/Missions
We believe that God desires to reveal Himself to all the peoples of the world, and that we have the privilege and responsibility to join Him in this work. Thus, we strive to reach people for Christ individually and corporately, as well as support those called to serve as missionaries, whether locally or abroad. We support missions through giving to various individual missionaries and various cooperative programs, as well as by nurturing and preparing members of our own community to serve in this capacity.

A Unified, Loving Community
We believe that our foundation as a local Christian community is the common hope we share through Christ's resurrection, as well as the common obligation to love that we share through Christ's command. Thus, we strive to fully live out Christian love in community by maintaining unity, nurturing and encouraging one another, and holding each other accountable to the holy calling which we share.

Active Membership
We believe that the Spirit of God has endowed every believer with gifts and talents necessary for the building up of the local body and for carrying out its mission in the world. Thus, every member is an integral and valuable part of the whole, and every member has a responsibility to serve the rest of the community in a capacity that is in accordance with his or her own giftedness and talents. Membership and service are inextricably linked at Highland Baptist Church.

Discipleship
We believe in conscious, purposeful discipleship for all age groups, from children to senior adults. This process takes place in our community through a variety of means, including Sunday school classes, small groups, and intimate, authentic personal relationships. Every believer is to strive toward maturity in Christ, and we have a mutual obligation to one another to help each other toward this end.

Praise and Worship
We believe that true worship involves the entire life of a believer dedicated to God. However, we also recognize the value of and need to gather together on Sundays in order to worship together through music, teaching, and other means. We affirm that God continues to speak to His church through music across the ages, including our own time. Thus we freely combine hymns, older choruses, and the newest praise and worship songs. Our primary values in singing together are substance and sound doctrine, rather than style.

Giving
We believe that giving for a believer encompasses not only financial giving, but the giving of our time and resources, as well, in order to support the work of God in the local church and beyond. In regards to financial giving, we believe that the command of the New Testament is to give cheerfully, generously, and sacrificially. When this is taking place we believe that God is pleased and that the giver will be blessed.
