Our church was established in August of 1891. With start-up help from First Baptist Dallas, we were the fourth Baptist church in Dallas. The original name was Lake Avenue Baptist Church. In 1892, the church moved to a new location on Cedar Springs Road. In 1905, property was acquired on McKinney Avenue at Routh, and the name was changed to McKinney Avenue Baptist Church. During the 1920's, McKinney Avenue and Oak Lawn Baptist Church merged. In August, 1936, the church name was changed to Highland Baptist Church. In March of 1937, the first service was held at a new location, Oak Lawn and Wycliffe. After many years at the Oaklawn and Wycliffe address, in March of 1993, the church moved to its current location on Boedeker.
Though the name and location have changed, the church has perservered in its mission to share the good news of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Highland has been integral in starting new churches in Dallas, the United States, and throughout the world. Highland has sacrificially shared the gospel for 118 years and is committed to continuing this legacy.
